The Turn of The Screw by Benjamin Britten

Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School, Aylesbury

Friday 19th and Saturday 20th October 2018 at 7.30pm.
Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School, Oxford Road, Aylesbury, HP21 8PE.

Britten’s third and final chamber opera is a beguiling dramatisation of the Henry James ghost story novella.  The ‘theme and variations’ structure, coupled with rhythmic and melodic motifs, guides us through the increasingly claustrophobic atmosphere.  The supernatural and the corruption of innocence are depicted through delicate, simplistic harmonies, illuminated by the enticing and glistening timbres of the harp and celesta.

Aylesbury Opera presents this masterpiece in collaboration with the staff and pupils of Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School.  It is a fully staged production with 13-piece orchestra, conducted by Kelvin Lim.  Stage direction is by Rosalie Sadler.
